I thought this movie was great. It left you with the perfect “what just happened” feeling and left you confused as to whether what was happening was real or just an elaborate set of coincidences. I don’t know why the movie wasn’t received better. It was funny throughout and the acting was spot on.

This movie draws obvious comparisons to Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino but it really manages to stand on its own and leaves you with quite a different feeling after watching it. Michael Caine’s amazing job in the lead really carries this whole movie and it completely engrosses you for the whole movie. The young actors playing the criminals did a phenomenal job as well. The couple of action sequences it has don’t have huge explosions and fancy acrobatics but they feel very real and brutal. It creates a very thrilling experience throughout the whole movie. The riot scene in particular is very brutal. It s a prime example as to why law enforcement needs to be adequately armed in order to maintain the peace. The situation went spiraling out of control and all they could do is hold their ground and pray not to get killed. So overall it was a well put together movie and had some extremely good acting.

I think this series really could have done with a bit less comedy. Don’t get me wrong, it made me laugh (as opposed to many other anime comedy series), but it had a lot of potential to be a lot more than what it was. It had shimmers of the brilliance that Wantanbe created in Cowboy Bebop but was never really allowed to fully realize it. It is definitely one of the better anime’s produced and I would recommend it to someone new to the genre.

An excellent and poignant tale set in the Macross universe. It really is pretty detached from the other entries in the franchise but I think that is a good thing. It is a little confusing jumping in without knowledge of the other series but it is certainly manageable and doesn’t really leave you feeling lost or anything. I think I like this a good deal more than Macross Zero. It has a more realistic plot and I would recommend this anybody, even someone who is normally not a fan of anime.

An excellent and gripping mystery/thriller. It was slow to build with a lot of intrigue and atmosphere and those are all things that make for the most engaging thrillers. It did go into what seemed like extra innings at the end but it did not leave any plot threads dangling which can sometimes be a bit of an annoyance in these movies. I am looking forward to seeing the next two films in the series and am also scared about what the English language remake is going to be like.
